Is making bad art good...?

Heyoo peeps, new blog post here ^^ For this one, I bring something I was meaning to talk about for a looong while... and as a person who's grown used to drawing every day, it's pretty much relevant and relatable.

So. Bad art. What do I mean by that? I mean making things that are outside of your usual zone, doodling simple and silly things, breaking the usual art rules or just carelessly showing the world the skills you've got, even if the result stinks in comparison to your usual work. It stinking isn't really a problem tho. More often than not, it just shows a different side of your own expression that's more free, devoid of any main stress or personal pressure.

I'm also saying this cause social media pretty much ruined the concept on the type of quality you should put out there. Setting a certain standard crushes the spontaneous flow of just making a silly doodle outside of a big magnum opus, and this is one thing that kept on bothering me throughout my socials - people would expect a certain level of quality, and I would never really guess how high that actually was.

Granted that I actually had a phase when I used to make excruciatingly detailed works, but that was due to my stuff being barely seen. I really wanted my hard work to pay off in some way, even if the work poured on it was through lots of sweat, blood and tears. I'm not in that mindset anymore, thankfully - just paying attention to what actually needs more work and what can have a more unfinished aspect, so that way I don't burn myself to the ground

Ok, now back to the bad, stinky art. At its core, it's all about loose ideas. Keeping things simple, throwing around colors or testing a new supply you just got, without too much finesse. Grabbing what you know, and turning some dials and knobs on their own heads. It's all about making a mess at this point, but a good mess, just like tinkering with Kid Pix's weird tools :]

And lastly, I can say I was surprised myself too... I didn't expect to like the flow of just making ugly and silly doodles on MS Paint and IbisPaint, but it just felt like a breath of fresh air. Breaking out of the usual flow of sketching, coloring and polishing, and instead seeing what kind of brain goop would stick at the wall, leaving a different splotch. I surely have been having lots of fun.

I do hope you guys have fun with that too... embracing your inner chaos and just having fun with this weird side of art! Stay artful <3
